  7. --  Under Novell NetWare a ".." entry was not produced in the directory
  8.     listing, defeating the function of the Grey-Minus key.  The ".." record
  9.     is now added if not found in non-root directories.
  10.  
  11. --  The label for the parent directory, rather than "<-DIR->" replaces the
  12.     characters with upward arrows (not reproduced here to avoid printer
  13.     conflicts if you print this file.
  14.  
  15. --  If a floppy is swapped but the descript.ion file is yet to be written,
  16.     it was possible to get into an endless loop of "replace disk" prompts.
  17.     You can now break out from a prompt if this happens.

  20. V-3.17:  June 17, 1994

  23. --  If 4F is configured to use LCD for changing directories and a CD operation
  24.     fails, you will now be prompted to have LCD rescan the directory tree.
  25.     The LCD utility port has a "/SCAN" entry.  You may make this "/SCAN DC"
  26.     if you want to scan only hard drives D and C.  Unfortunately, this rescan
  27.     function is not available for ACD; ACD displays a directory tree to choose
  28.     a directory from rather than reporting an error in ERRORLEVEL.
  29.  
  30. --  As soon as a CD operation starts, the 4F listing and count of files and
  31.     bytes are now cleared -- only the current directory shows on in the 4FILES
  32.     screen framework until the new directory has been loaded.  For large
  33.     directories or slow networks, this makes it clear that something is
  34.     happening during the CD.
  35.  
  36. --  On upward CD's from a subdirectory named AAA.002, if there is a
  37.     subdirectory in the parent named AAA.001, .001 rather than .002 became
  38.     the current record in the parent.  Fixed.
  39.  
  40. --  Copying to ".." was not working.  Also, for copying to an existing directory
  41.     named ..\..\AAA, the directory was not being found to exist.  Both fixed.
  42.  
  43. --  Detection of write protected disks was disabled due to a conflict with a
  44.     genuine bug in DOS, encountered with a change in v-3.15.  4F now works
  45.     around the bug.
  46.  
  47. --  The (K)ill directory command no longer rereads the directory when finished.
  48.  
  49.  
  50. V-3.15:
  51. =======
  52.  
  53. --  Configuration switch added to determine whether or not you will be prompted
  54.     for each file when copying or moving marked files (has no effect if running
  55.     under COMMAND.COM).
  56.  
  57. --  Failure to create new directory during copy using the ".." directory name
  58.     has been corrected.
  59.  
  60. --  Switching or restoring (after calling a utility) the number of screen rows
  61.     has been improved.
  62.  
  63. --  Fixed problem with branded-as-registered copies losing their brands (on an
  64.     infrequent basis).

  67. V-3.13 Fixes:
  68. =============
  69.  
  70. --  If the video mode was changed in a utility called from within 4FILES,
  71.     upon returning to 4FILES garbage was displayed after the video mode was
  72.     restored.  Fixed.

  74. --  The Shft-DEL and Shft-INS keys are once again functional.

  76.  
  77. V-3.12 Fixes:
  78. =============
  79.  
  80. --  Restoration of the original DOS screen failed if the TEMP directory
  81.     was a subdirectory rather than a root directory.  Fixed.
  82.  
  83. --  An error in at least one type of AMI BIOS chip caused keystrokes for
  84.     yes/no prompts to be lost before being acted on, putting the computer in an
  85.     endless loop.  One function on this BIOS trashes a register that should be
  86.     unaffected; 4FILES now restores the register after the BIOS call.
  87.  
  88. --  Instructions for Windows installation in 4F.DOC improved.
  89.

  91. V-3.11 Improvements
  92. ===================
  93.  
  94. VIDEO:
  95. ======
  96.  
  97. --  Video mode selection with Ctrl-F7 has been improved.  This includes
  98.     detection of ANSI if it is active, enabling use of compatible behavior.
  99.  
  100. --  The original text font can be restored if the controlling configuration
  101.     menu switch is set to 'Y,' but this does not work on some systems.  This is
  102.     essential if you use a utility that sets non-standard height characters
  103.     to get non-standard numbers of rows (e.g. 28 or 33), or if you have a font
  104.     that you like better than the fonts supplied in your video BIOS.
  105.  
  106. --  The original font table is stored to EMS, if available.
  107.  
  108. --  A bug sometimes affecting cursor location at exit has been fixed.  The
  109.     meanings of the configuration menu switches controlling behavior at exit
  110.     have been changed; you may to change some of the settings.
  111.  
  112.  
  113. DISK ACCESS:
  114. ============
  115.  
  116. --  For removable media drives running under DOS 4.0 or higher, 4FILES now
  117.     prompts before writing DESCRIPT.ION or DEMARCAT.ION if the disk has
  118.     been changed.
  119.  
  120. --  Handling of CD-ROM drives has been improved.
  121.  
  122. --  On write protected disks that are full and for which files are marked,
  123.     it was impossible to clear the "size overflow" message.  This has been
  124.     fixed.  Also, for write protected disks, file marks are now held in a
  125.     temporary file in your TEMP directory.

  128. TEXT MODE:
  129. ==========
  130.  
  131. --  Paste now takes into account the insert state rather than automatically
  132.     inserting text.
  133.  
  134. --  A Ctrl-U command has been added to undo an inadvertent paste or bad edit.
  135.  
  136. --  A paste problem that caused lock-ups has been fixed.

  139. FILE MANAGEMENT MODE:
  140. =====================

  142. --  When creating an archive file, the current filename (shown by pressing
  143.     UpArrow) is now shown without an extension, eliminating some key strokes.
  144.  
  145. --  A problem in the archive file name history with shorter filenames not
  146.     fully overwriting previous longer names has been fixed.

  157.   a)  "V" displays 'Volume Information,' including the free bytes
  158.   available on the current drive and an editable VOLUME LABEL field.

  160.   b)  For Copy/Move/Zip operations, the target path input field is now
  161.   active first, then the filename input field.
  162.  
  163.   c)  During Copy/Move/Zip, the target drive is now checked for write
  164.   protection before the operation is attempted.

  167. FROM WITHIN NOTE MODE:

  170.   a)  High ASCII symbols can now be generated with Alt-Keypad key combinations.
  171.  
  172.   b)  The "whole note copied" message is now cleared by the next keystroke.

  175. ADDITIONS TO CONFIGURATION MENUS:

  178.   There were several additions, and there are more in Version 3.11.  See
  179.   4F.DOC for V-3.11.

  182. OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENTS:

  185.   a)  During operations from write protected disks, including CDROMs, the
  186.   DEMARCAT.ION file (preserving file marks) and 0-4F-DOS.ERR error trapping
  187.   files are now written to your TEMP directory.  This avoids the two
  188.   warning messages used previously.
  189.  
  190.   A Ctrl-L command has been added to show the error trapping file via
  191.   your LIST utility.  The error file can be deleted while exiting LIST.

  194. VIDEO MODE CHANGES ON-THE-FLY:
  195. ------------------------------
  196.  
  197.   <Ctrl-F7> cycles through all available video modes, using either of two
  198.   methods.  See 4F.DOC for details.
